Planning on doing one in Maxwell Texas this weekend, so I have very important questions to ask.

Like what’s the best place for queso and tacquitos in Austin/San Marcos?

And what could go wrong?

I can’t help with the first question, but I can answer the second:

Anything can go wrong. You can blow it up, you can rip off the bumpers, you can tear off a shock mount, you can flip it, you can dump it into a ditch and tear up the radiator , etc etc.

Or, you could have a perfect day, then blow a tire on your last run and realize that you didn’t bring a jack, tools, or a spare... and that your car is too tall to jack up to get a spare on it. Trust me, I know.

Seriously, anything could go wrong. That depends somewhat on how rough the course is (the one I went to was fairly rough ), but be prepared for anything! Rallycross isn’t quite like autocross. Even flat courses can be much harder on the car.

It’ll probably be fine! Have fun!

Is this at Brianne Corn’s place?

Cool. I haven’t been out there, but I might be able to stop by. Probably can’t get there until around lunch time and I’ll have my kids in tow, but I can probably swing by and check out a few runs... I’m assuming you are running the Yaris? As for what could go wrong... probably not much. It will be hot as balls, but since it’s a cross where you’re out for a lap at a time I don’t think you’ll be running long enough to overheat the motor or brakes. They have photos of things like a 2-series and 996 on the track - if those are OK you should be fine.

I’m super butt late for this. TBH, most of my dinners in San Marcos have been at Jason’s Deli or Freebirds since they’re close to the track (both Harris Hill and Brianne Corn). There’s an old-school Tex-Mex joint I went to next to the river that was legit—down a little alleyway and boom, there is Tex-Mex. Herbert’s Taco Hut. Then again, pretty much all the smaller Mexican joints are pretty good. Only true disappointment has been Mamacita’s on Aquarena.

Centerpoint Station has tasty pastries and one of the better burgers around. Dos Gatos has by far the best kolaches in the whole Austin-San Marcos area. Not even a contest. Then there’s apparently a really good BBQ joint somewhere (might’ve made Texas Monthly’s list?), but IDK what it is and since I live in the area, I’m friggin’ burnt out on BBQ anyway.

tl;dr—come back, San Marcos is one of the chillest places in the state and dirt is good. (Also, I need to bring the parsh out to rallycross soon. NEED.)

Brianne offered me a price that has me strongly considering a fly and flip that I’d try to use to subsidize a USGP weekend.

It makes perfect sense provided you don’t think about it too hard.

A non rusty manual GC would be quite popular I believe.
